Catapult Dance: Michele Miller |
June 17 |
Catapult Dance is known for its use of a hybrid of movement forms including modern dance, contact improvisation, martial arts and physical theater. The company utilizes physical experimentation and practiced methods of falling, flying and inversions to create a sensual, kinetic, emotional landscape.
The nine dancers in Catapult Dance push the physical boundaries of movement and technique through an intense rehearsal process that builds the trust and technical skill necessary to safely execute the physical material in these pieces. The work is a collaboration of choreography from Michele Miller and improvisation of the dancers. Musician Nico Tower plays live at every rehearsal, driving and inspiring the movement. When are the moments that you met yourself? What are all the parts that make you, you? Under the layers of branded clothing, who are we? We have also shared interest speaking about the private vs. public self. Who are we when we are alone? When we are with friends? When we are with strangers? Another idea is how are we present in these different situations? How are we being expressive? Does it vary? For us, we’ve searched and found that it does.
Ilona and Danica Bito produce work to unearth the sisterhoods that unfold from the intersections of shared practices, mentors, and lived histories.
